Welwyn Festival Open Garden

Despite the fact that the Fernery is open 24/7 it has become the practice for the Welwyn Festival Committee to invite the Friends of Danesbury Fernery (FODF) to ‘Open’ the Fernery as part of the Festival Open Gardens Programme. The Fernery was ‘Opened’ in this sense in 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2021.

An entrance charge is made for Local Charities that the Welwyn Festival Committee supports, and a special programme is arranged with refreshments on offer. Since the Post Lockdown Open Day in September 2021 we now provide entertainment too.

Plans for 2022 – Thursday 30th June – 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Plans are well underway and the FODF have been tasked with many jobs.

The FODF Gardening Group meet on a weekly basis to keep the Fernery Garden as clean and tidy and beautiful as can be for all times of the year that we meet. (See the Calendar for details of times that the Gardening Group meet. But the volunteers put in extra hard work to prepare the site for the Open Garden.

Helpers Needed

Apart from the FODF volunteers, more help is always welcomed from others who can spare the time to:

  • help set the site up on the morning of Open Days, and/or
  • help clear up and clean up afterwards in the evening.

If you know in advance that you can help, please contact our Chair at , so that we can plan in advance better. But otherwise, spontaneous help is always precious and very often fun!

More details will be added as plans develop.
