Sunday 22nd June 2025
Once again the Fernery was open and attracted large numbers of villagers, friends and their families.
The final count (in the order of 150 visitors) has not yet been made but numbers of visitors were slightly down on previous years for a number of possible reasons: this was our first Sunday Afternoon Opening and we competed with many other superb Festival-associated attractions in the village, whereas previously we have opened in the evening in line with other Open Gardens.
Added to which it was very hot!!
Apart from the beauty of the Fernery itself, and the wonderful planting that complements the Pulham rockwork, added entertainment was provided once again by the Welwyn Harmony Choir.
The plant sales went very well and refreshments were welcome as always.
Quite apart from the regular volunteers who carry out planting and garden maintenance every Tuesday throughout the Year, special thanks must go to the ‘extra’ volunteers who regularly turn out each Open Day to help prepare the site and then clear up afterwards, collecting Entrance Fees for Festival Charities, helping with Plant Sales and in the Refreshment Gazebo offering drinks and nibbles to the deserving customers. We could not do it without you!
