A group of 18 volunteers, including the retired Manager of the Borough Landscape and Ecology Department, Ann MacDonald, and Borough Councillor Paul Smith, enjoyed our Xmas Party on 16th December 2021.
Before the Chairman blew his whistle to down tools, the seasonal task of leaf collecting continued and our compost cages are filling up nicely. Exceptionally the volunteers also planted some 100 or more bare-rooted whips in the perimeter to replace the very many that didn’t survive the drought that followed the 2019 mass planting.
Eventually, on the stroke of 11 a.m. the Chairman blew his whistle to signify the end of work for 2021, and to give permission for multiple flasks of hot mulled wine to be opened to start the celebrations. At this time we were joined by our new Borough Council Officer Joseph Wilson Charry who kindly took the group photo above.
We wish all our readers, and particularly those of our regular volunteers who unfortunately could not make the Xmas Party for one reason or another, a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
