The Tuesday working parties in The Fernery are putting in extra hours in preparation for the forthcoming summer!
For the first time on 2nd May 2023 we were able to use an industrial sized shredder to start to get to work on the many fallen branches and prunings that had been gathered over the past months.
The resultant wood chip will make excellent mulch for the herbaceous beds and, in particular, for the new shrubs that have recently been planted to replace the many lost earlier this year through the very heavy frosts we have all experienced.
While the machine was making its deafening noise on the perimeter, the regular work of weeding, clearing and planting continued in the Dell.
The volunteers always enjoy their well-earned ‘Elevensies’ break.
