We announced at our delayed 2022 Christmas gathering, that the Friends of Danesbury Fernery (FODF) had been invited to open the Danesbury Fernery as part of the National Garden Scheme (NGS) on Thursday 8th and Saturday 10th June 2023 from 5.30 p.m. to 8.30 p.m.
Considering the relatively short time that it has taken (since September 2015) to restore the site from a derelict state, the Invitation alone is a great achievement. It is a credit to all the volunteers of the Fernery Gardening Group who have worked so hard and so professionally, virtually every Tuesday for the past few years.
For details of NGS Opening Times and Access please go to: https://findagarden.ngs.org.uk/garden/44329/danesbury-fernery.
We hope very much that all Friends of Danesbury Fernery, and their families and friends, will be able to support the NGS Charities by attending on one of the two Open days.
We look forward particularly to meeting up once again with some of the people who gave us encouragement and advice at the very beginning, and volunteers who helped clear the site between 2015-2017 before we were able to develop the garden. You know who you are! Please make yourself known to the Danesbury volunteers on site when you arrive, so that the Chairman and Committee can look out for you and give you a special welcome.
If the weather is dry, the Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council (site owners) have kindly agreed to open the Fernery Field on the Danesbury Local Nature Reserve to ease local car parking. There will be many jobs that need doing on the two days, and the Friends are seeking local volunteers to help. Please contact us on if you can help, or for more information.
