We were approached in November 2023 by The Folly Fellowship who were following up a Report of our work in a 2017 Hertfordshire Gardens Trust Journal, when we were only two years into major restoration work.
With their deep interest in Grottoes and Ferneries, the Fellowship were organising a ‘Hertfordshire Ramble’ to include The Danesbury Fernery and nearby Bennington Lordship.
Some 32 Fellowship members visited us for one hour in the morning of 15th May 2024, some of whom had travelled from considerable distances, including Cornwall!
Members of the FODF Committee escorted them around the site. The visitors were well aware of what a neglected state the Fernery had reached before we started in 2016, and as a result they were very impressed with the work carried out by the volunteers. At the end of their visit they very generously donated £100 to the FODF funds.
A visit to the the Fellowship website will give you an indication of the extent and dedication of this worthy group of enthusiasts, and we hope that at some time in the future we will be able to welcome them again.
