(Message delivered to the volunteers in The Fernery at our Xmas 23 Working Party)
Happy Christmas everyone
Well this year has whizzed by!
I just want to say a few words before the Christmas munching and drinking begins.
First and foremost is to thank you all for your hard work and commitment to volunteering here at The Fernery. It’s a shame quite a few can’t be here today including Sarah who we hope soon recovers fully. But even whilst she’s been laid up in Australia she has sent me planting plans for the whips and alliums we have been planting today!
We look forward to spring and hopefully in 2024 there will be a complete ring of daffodils after the extra plantings this year and we hope the witch hazels will add extra colour during the late winter, and early spring time. We also have the Judas trees to look forward to in blossom, and hope the winter weather will be kinder to us this year.
I should also mention the ferns that Colin has brought in from The Wildings are looking as if they have taken well. And maybe we should do an online photo quiz from Jenny on wild flowers to see how many we have learnt!
Update for 2024
Welwyn Festival
We have committed to being open for the Welwyn Festival on Thursday June 27th from 4.30 p.m. to 8 p.m. with drinks and nibbles as in previous years. We also hope that the choir will attend to entertain us all.
Local Nature Reserve
The ‘Wednesday Group’ of volunteers are coming on August 7th and 14th as they did in 2023 and earlier years.
Finally, big thanks to everyone who has helped us through 2023.
Here are a few photos of the volunteers who managed to attend today’s Final 2023 Work Party – all in cheery mood on a cold day, enjoying the refreshments, and taking time to wish you all a Very Happy Christmas and New Year.
